At the Royal Norfolk Show this year, a team of six Year 12 students from Norwich High School for Girls are fundraising for the East Anglian Air Ambulance through taking part in the Great Norfolk Ice Cream Challenge.

The Project, in association with Ronaldo Ices and Nelsonspirit, will see teams of sixth formers from Norfolk schools competing in a business and charity challenge to see who can sell the most ice cream in a day. The Norwich High team of six students will man a Ronaldo ice cream barrow on the Norwich High stand between 11am – 4pm and manage sales and marketing. All profits will be donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a charity providing life-saving critical care 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year by air and road. From road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests to medical emergencies, their specialist doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots bring advanced skills, equipment and medicine in the fastest time possible.

Wanting a Royal-link to their chosen charity given the Royal status of the Norfolk Show, the team chose EAAA given that The Duke of Cambridge worked as an air ambulance pilot for them between March 2015 and July 2017. The team also wanted a charity linked to healthcare and indirectly supporting the NHS.

Luke Abendroth, Community Fundraising Lead – Norfolk, commented: “Thank you to Norwich High School for Girls for supporting East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) through the Great Norfolk Ice Cream Challenge at this year’s Royal Norfolk Show. Not only will this exciting activity help to increase the students’ understanding of business, but the funds raised will help to save lives across the region.

“EAAA operates 24/7 by air and road from Norwich and Cambridge and attends an average of eight medical emergencies a day across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. The charity receives no regular government funding and relies almost entirely on the generosity of local people to develop and deliver its life-saving service.”

Luke continues: “Having welcomed an aspiring young pilot to EAAA’s Norwich base last year, we are grateful for our continuing relationship with Norwich High School for Girls and for their kind support. We wish you every success with the Great Norfolk Ice Cream Challenge!”

“The ‘Apprentice-style’ Great Norfolk Ice Cream Challenge is the perfect project for our sixth form students to raise money for charity while also gaining the opportunity for a day of work experience connected to sales and marketing.”

Mrs Jane Wells, Head of Business & Economics at Norwich High School for Girls

Mrs Wells continued: This project will enable the students to gain leadership experience while working in a business project team, as well as gaining direct selling and marketing experience. I am looking forward to a fun day at the Royal Norfolk Show as well as raising vital funds for such an important local charity.”
